The City of La Vernia has let us know that the intersection of FM 775 and Chihuahua Street was impacted by an accident involving an 18-wheeler on Friday night.
Due to damage and ongoing safety assessments, the intersection is expected to remain closed until at least Tuesday. With school traffic resuming tomorrow, families and staff are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time during morning and afternoon commutes.
We appreciate the City of La Vernia’s continued work to address this situation and thank our community for their patience.

🎁 Annual BPA Drives: Supporting Our Community & Those in Need This Season 💙🐻
'Tis the season of giving, and our incredible La Vernia BPA students are once again stepping up to serve others through TWO heartwarming community drives — the Bear Drive and Essentials Drive. These projects run year-round and make a direct impact on children and families both here in La Vernia and beyond. 💫
💙 BPA Bear Drive – Comfort in Crisis
Led by Junior Allison Thompson, this drive collects NEW, small teddy bears for our local first responders to keep in their vehicles. These bears are given to young children during emergency calls to provide comfort during tough times.
🧸 Bears must be new and fit in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag.
🧸 Drop-off: Front office or Room 432 at LVHS.
💙 BPA Essentials Drive – Serving Families in Crisis
Led by Senior Jason Granto, this drive supports the Children’s Shelter of San Antonio and surrounding shelters. We're collecting:
🍼 Hygiene products
🧦 New socks (all sizes)
🛏 Blankets
👶 Diapers, wipes, pacifiers, bottles
🧼 Other daily necessities for children and families
📦 Donation boxes are located in the LVHS front office, or items may be delivered to Room 432 through any BPA member.
🌟 If you're able to donate or help us spread the word, your support means everything! Together, we’re showing what it means to be part of the Bear Family—strong, compassionate, and united. 💙🐻

Today our Practicum in Entrepreneurship students stepped out of the classroom and into two incredible learning environments, each offering a real-world look at how organizations grow, serve and make an impact. Today they went to VelocityTX and the Children’s Shelter.
VelocityTX | Innovation & Entrepreneurship
The day began at VelocityTX, where the welcome was unforgettable! They greeted us with the La Vernia logo displayed on their main screen as we walked in. From start to finish, they made our students feel valued and part of something special. Students learned how VelocityTX supports new ventures through programs that strengthen entrepreneurship, expand workforce skills and fuel economic development. They also heard from a financial analyst with Alamo Angels, who shared how investors evaluate early-stage ideas and what it takes for startups to move forward. The experience wrapped up with a team-building challenge that pushed students to think, communicate and problem-solve, exactly the skills we talk about in class. Learn more at: velocitytx.org
The Children’s Shelter of San Antonio | Mission-Driven Leadership
Our next visit took us to The Children’s Shelter, a nonprofit that provides critical services and support to children and families in need. Students explored how a charitable organization operates from its business structure and funding model to the systems that keep programs moving. The presentation and tour gave students a meaningful look at how business principles apply in service-based work. Learn more at: childrensshelter.org
As always, our Business Program and La Vernia BPA will continue our annual Essentials Drive supporting the Children’s Shelter. Seeing the work firsthand reminded students how leadership, community service and business knowledge come together to make a real difference. Today’s tours directly supported our Practicum in Entrepreneurship TEKS by bringing organizational structures, funding pathways, innovation and social responsibility to life.
Proud of these Business Bears wanting to make such a positive impact!
