Business Bears in Action at VelocityTX!

Our Business Bears had an incredible learning experience on Sept. 16th at VelocityTX in San Antonio!

Students learned how VelocityTX has grown into an innovation ecosystem that brings together entrepreneurs, researchers, businesses, universities, government, and military medicine to help move ideas from development to real-world application. They saw firsthand how collaboration, entrepreneurship, innovation, and business development can work together to create opportunities and contribute to economic growth in our region. The experience went far beyond a tour. Students learned about the development of the VelocityTX campus and how the organization helps companies connect, validate ideas and technology, access resources, build partnerships, and move toward commercialization. They also heard directly from entrepreneurs working within the ecosystem and saw an important lesson come to life: even an incredible idea or life-changing innovation still requires a business structure, funding, partnerships, strategy, and entrepreneurial skills to reach the people it is intended to serve.

Students even got to put their own entrepreneurial skills to work during a pitch challenge! Working in small groups, they received one item and were challenged to develop and deliver a pitch. Congratulations to our winning team, who walked away with VelocityTX T-shirts!

We are incredibly grateful to the VelocityTX team for welcoming our students, sharing their knowledge, providing lunch, giving us a look around their campus, and sending our students home with gift bags. Most importantly, they gave our students access to people, ideas, industries, and possibilities they might not otherwise experience. These are the experiences we value in the Business Bears program, taking learning beyond the classroom and giving our emerging professionals opportunities to see how business, entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development work in the real world.

Thank you, VelocityTX, for investing your time in our students and making us feel so welcome!
