Student Council honored for Care for Cameroon project
On Thursday, November 9th, four of the La Vernia High School Student Council Officers, Amanda Leija, Cruz Leija, Allison Newberg, and Leah Munoz with their sponsor, Sandy Land attended the 2017 Jessica’s Project Symposium on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy at St. Philips College. The symposium presented information on the dangers of head injuries as well as research that may help to repair the damage. Keynote speakers at the event were James Lechleiter from UT Health Science, Rhonda Johnson from Hope4mind, Kelly Ramsey the president of TXBI, and Jonas Crafts, Retired NFL Player.
After the Keynote speakers, Dr. Solom Nfor, the sponsor of Jessica’s Project, recognized the La Vernia High School Student Council for the books they had collected for the “Care for Cameroon” project . The Council worked with all of the schools in the district and the community. The council collected 9,000 books and boxed them to be sent to Cameroon, Africa. The books will go to the English speaking schools that are not able to get books for their students.
