Throughout the month of April, the La Vernia High School Student Council is sponsoring the “Care for Cameroon” book drive. Cameroon is an African country where the main language is French and the ruling majority of the country is French. The government does not provide adequate English materials to the English speaking minority of Cameroon. Student Council’s goal is to provide English speaking resources to the areas in Cameroon where it is most needed. Last year, the Care for Cameroon Book Drive sent over 7000 donated books to the Cameroon, and a public library was opened in a town that had never had one before – solely from items donated by LVHS students, faculty and staff!!! Students can bring donated books to their 3rd period class. The class period with the most books wins a prize. If community members would like to donate, donations can be brought in to the high school library. For questions, please contact Sandy Land at firstname.lastname@example.org.
